HEALING

Healing is a topic of top priority for us in the times in which we are living. In this age of me-ism and radical independence, the truth of God's word cries out to us. Jesus, after call Matthew into discipleship and to come follow Him, drank and eat at Matthew's house.

The pharisees objected: "Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?" (Life Application Bible, NIV, Luke 5:30) And then in Luke 5:31: "Jesus answered them, 'It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."

Jesus calls us all to realize our dependence upon Him, and to be in humility before Him. We are depended on the great physician for everything, as the parable of the vine and the branches teaches us. We are called to do our part by submitting to Jesus out of a deep realization of who He is: the savior of the world. He is "the way, the truth, the life."

One of the most well-known healing ministries of all-time: the Healing Rooms, of Spokane, Washington - which first operated in 1915-1920 - and started by John Lake - had a recorded 100,000 documented healings in that city during that time. A huge reason for the ministry's success was that Lake required people to come back for 30 consecutive days to hear all the Bible has to say about healing. Then - and only then - would he pray for them (after the 30 days were up). The Healing Rooms re-opened in 1999 under the leadership of Cal Pierce, and today there are over 3,100 Healing Rooms in over 75 countries.

In us is death because of the Fall in the Garden of Eden, but in Jesus is life. Our part in it all is the faith walk, trusting the healing process, whereby we are being molded and shaped more and more each into the likeness of Jesus.

Per Isaiah 53:4-5, NIV: "Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted, but he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed."
